How many Tetrix cubes do you need?

We are often asked how many cubes it takes to transform a room into a collaborative space.
Unfortunately, there's no magic number – every space is different, and your needs are unique – but we have some tips that might help you find the best ratio.

1) Remember your Lego days
Tetrix cubes are a bit like Lego pieces. You can't do much if you have too few. Where's the fun in playing with 4 or 5 pieces, right?
It's so frustrating when you have a great idea and then run out of cubes. The more cubes you have, the more creative you can get.

2) What is your space intended for?
A few key questions can help you determine the right number:

  • How many people do you anticipate in your space?
  • What features does your audience expect? Will your space host collaborative workshops, pitch sessions, or a world café? Or maybe all of these at once?

Let's look at some typical configurations and their cube/participant ratio.

Configuration: A plenary room with a reception wall at the entrance
This simple setup can be used for presentations or for the introduction of a workshop. We used 34 cubes to create a stool with a cushion.
On the wall at the entrance, it is possible to write a welcome message on the added whiteboard panels.

-> 50 cubes for 34 participants

Configuration: World Café
The World Café is a simple and flexible format for organizing dialogues with large groups.
We improved the setup by transforming the table into a whiteboard, allowing everyone to take notes easily.

-> 50 cubes for 30 participants

Configuration: Whiteboard wall
In many situations, it is necessary to divide the group to address topics in parallel and gain efficiency. Whiteboard walls are often the best solution, both for sharing ideas and for serving as a sound barrier.
All cubes are covered with whiteboard panels, which can be removed and replaced.

-> 60 cubes for 20 participants

The Totem
Creating a memorable experience is an important part of our work. We call these sculptures “totems,” and they are usually covered with quotes from participants or drawings made during the workshop.
They can represent a lighthouse, a totem pole, a staircase to heaven... Anything that embodies and amplifies the collective spirit of the group.

Budget

Tetrix is no more expensive than whiteboard walls when it comes to transforming a space, and it offers much more flexibility.

We have shown you some examples and configurations ranging from 1.5 to 3 cubes/participant. But in the end, remember that imagination has no limits!
